The San Juan Islands are very beautiful and part of this is due to how remote we are. This makes us very vulnerable to wildfires! Due to this danger ALL OPEN BURNING outside of structures is regulated by the County Fire Marshal. EXCEPT for Recreational Burning. ALL open burning requires a permit for which you must pay a fee. For your safety ALL OPEN BURNING RULES must be followed even when a permit is NOT required. These rules are provided for the safety of all and these fees support the fire districts and the County Fire Marshal?s Office (FMO). We are proud to serve you!

Commercial burn permits for Orcas Island only are available for online purchase. For all other commercial burn permits, please visit your local fire station listed below.

BURNING PERMITS WILL BE ISSUED ONLY TO THE OWNER OF THE PROPERTY WHERE THE BURN IS TO TAKE PLACE, OR TO A DULY DESIGNATED AGENT FOR THE OWNER.
